The Hyperboard has had disc brakes since the early days, but it still needs some work in order to be fully functional. We have two versions, one based on chinese ATV brakes, and one based on our own custom caliper designs and 3d printed Alumide + steel. We would love people joining us to finish this part.
We need people with skills in mechanics, electronics and software to get it to a stage where everything works good and reliable.
Hi Sune how´s it going?
Could you tell me what works and what doesn´t work regarding the brakes? Maybe I could help on the mechanical part..
The standard atv brakes has a inner part that is not well designed for the servos to pull them, you could try to design a better part. I do not have a model of it though but can take some pictures and measurements? Our own brakes should work well, but need some software/electronics work before its finished, but the brakes are way too expensive to make since theyre all custom. The atv brakes costs only 20 usd, so its fairly cheap.
Alternatively you could try to help source some small mirrored disc brakes. General bike brakes wont do it, as they are not mirrored. However I found some for bikes that are mirrored, but they only sell them for other bike makers, and when i told i wanted to use them on boards, they didnt let me buy them.
I can also share the design of our own disc brakes, i think we did not yet make them public.
